Dyslexia Assessments
A comprehensive assessment exploring how you or your child processes information, including reading, writing, spelling, and memory skills. Carried out by a PATOSS-registered specialist assessor, the assessment typically takes 2β3 hours and results in a detailed written report. The report explains the findings clearly in accessible language and sets out practical recommendations for support, including the technical detail required by schools, universities, and other institutions.

Frequently Asked Questions
We understand that arranging a dyslexia assessment often comes with questions. Here youβll find answers to some of the most common queries about the assessment process, what to expect, and how we can support you or your child.
The assessment explores a wide range of cognitive and academic areas, including memory, processing speed, phonological skills, verbal reasoning, reading, spelling, and written expression. It looks at both strengths and challenges, building a detailed picture of how you or your child thinks and learns. This is not a pass-or-fail test β it is a collaborative, respectful process designed to understand the individual.
The assessment typically takes 2β3 hours in total, including breaks. It is structured across several stages: an initial conversation about background and any areas of concern, a series of cognitive tasks, and tasks focused on reading, writing, and related academic skills. A short break is built in throughout to keep things comfortable and manageable.
A professional assessment does far more than confirm or rule out dyslexia. Even where a diagnosis is not reached, you will receive a detailed picture of your own β or your child's β cognitive profile, covering areas such as memory, processing speed, phonological skills, and verbal reasoning. This level of insight is rarely available through school, the workplace, or routine appointments.
β
The written report helps you understand how you or your child thinks and learns. Additionally, it gives schools, employers, and other professionals (such as speech and language therapists, paediatricians, or CAMHS practitioners) a concrete evidence base to work from. This can open doors to support that might otherwise be difficult to access or justify.
β
Whatever the outcome, the assessment has real value. Knowing how you or your child processes information is always worthwhile, and that understanding belongs to you, regardless of any formal diagnosis.
No referral is needed. You can contact us directly to enquire about a dyslexia assessment. Our team will be happy to discuss your concerns and advise whether an assessment is appropriate.
Following the assessment, you will receive a comprehensive written report. This outlines the findings, identifies strengths and areas of difficulty, and provides practical recommendations and strategies to support learning at school, university, or in the workplace.
Additional Services
The following services are available as add-ons to a dyslexia assessment, providing further depth where needed.

ADHD Traits Assessment
This additional assessment explores the impact of ADHD-related traits alongside a dyslexia profile. It is primarily designed to support university students applying for Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA), providing the evidence needed to access accommodations and tailored support. The assessment considers how attention, concentration, and executive functioning interact with literacy difficulties.
Available for adults aged 18 and above.
Dyspraxia Traits Assessment
This additional assessment explores the impact of dyspraxia-related traits alongside a dyslexia profile. Like the ADHD traits assessment, it is primarily designed to support university students applying for DSA, and provides evidence to help access appropriate accommodations and support. The assessment considers how motor coordination and processing difficulties interact with literacy challenges.
Available for adults aged 18 and above.
Education Navigation
A supportive meeting bringing together parents and school staff to explore next steps following a diagnosis. This session helps families and educators understand the assessment findings, agree on practical strategies, and plan for the support needed going forward. It bridges the gap between assessment and action.
Available following a dyslexia assessment, for children and young people up to age 18.
