What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a natural response to stress, but when it becomes persistent or overwhelming, it can interfere with everyday life. It may present as excessive worry, physical symptoms, or avoidance of certain situations. Our approach focuses on helping individuals better understand their anxiety and build the skills needed to manage it confidently.

How Anxiety Can Present

Many children, young people and adults experience anxiety in ways that can feel overwhelming, exhausting, or misunderstood particularly when this sits alongside neurodivergence such as ADHD or autism.

Anxiety may present as constant worry, emotional overwhelm, school avoidance, shutdowns, panic symptoms, sleep difficulties, perfectionism, masking, sensory distress, or feeling unable to manage with everyday demands that others appear to manage more easily.

Often for traditional mental health services, it can be difficult to know whether behaviours reflect anxiety, neurodivergence, burnout, or a combination of these experiences. Many families and adults come to us after feeling unheard or after strategies that worked for others did not feel appropriate for their child or themselves.
